Community Focus
Fortis Telecom is a company that has committed to breaking new ground in the deployment of the technologies that will enable a truly competitive landscape for local communities, creating the jobs of the future and bringing new innovations that will propel education, healthcare, public safety and overall economic development throughout the region. Tele-Medicine/Tele-Health, Electronic Medical Records, Education and Distance Learning and Enhanced Public Safety and Government Services are only the beginning of the technological advancements that we will bring to the areas where we provide service.
Healthcare
We are actively pursuing the Healthcare organizations in the Sacramento California Region to provide the telecommunications infrastructure for Telemedicine, Telehealth, and Electronic Medical Records. We have created a high-speed medical intranet in Folsom California, one of the first in the country with the ability to connect all medical facilities with a secure, high-speed Virtual Private Network suitable for aforementioned applications.
Education
We are actively working with educational organizations in the Sacramento California Region to promote awareness, training and infrastructure to increase the use of broadband. Our High-Speed VPN capabilities offer a new cost effective means of implementing applications such as Distance Learning and High Definition Video Conferencing.
Public Safety
We are actively working with government organizations in the Sacramento California Region to promote awareness, training and infrastructure to increase the use of broadband and reduce costs. Utilizing IP PBX technologies combined with wireless infrastructure, we are providing applications such as Centrex line replacement and communications for Emergency Operations.
Large Firms have not delivered in the US
Large incumbents are not the firms with the best incentives and business models to promote innovation. Some of the large firms have a historical predatory conduct that hampers innovation and competition. In fact, much innovation today is being lost through anti competitive consolidation. Smaller, technically-oriented companies often assume the type of risk (and the amount of risk) that is not often tolerated by large companies. In the United States both consumers and companies depend on smaller, high-tech companies to explore the commercial application of new technology.
Telecom Reform in the United States
When the Telecommunications Act of 1996 was passed it opened the telecommunications industry to competition. Broadband penetration rates in the United States continue to grow, although we still lag behind many foreign countries in penetration rates. US broadband penetration dropped from 17th to 19th place overall among all countries surveyed over the past two quarters. Monaco leads all nations surveyed with 40.6% of the population on broadband and 100% of households. Although many residential customers are able to choose between cable modem services and DSL for broadband services, there are concerns about whether a strong third provider will emerge and whether these services will be widely available. The United States still only has two most significant providers; cable modem services provided by the cable television industry and DSL provided by the local incumbent or competitive provider. We argue that the entire country is "Underserved" with only two major service providers in most areas. We ARE the THIRD option in our service area, providing significantly higher broadband speeds and advanced digital voice service coupled with a significant cost savings to the consumer.
Creating Competition and Choice
Many organizations fear competition. They are afraid that another organization is going to come along that can offer the same features and benefits but will offer them: quicker, cheaper, with more customization, with better customer service, etc. Competition is actually a good thing; in fact it’s a great thing. Without competition Apple would have never created their iPod, Microsoft would have never created Windows, and Google would probably be non-existent. Competition is essential because it leads to one very important thing, innovation.
People are always looking for products with more features and capabilities, products that cost less but can do more, and products that just plain solve their needs/wants better than any other product can. When companies compete, consumers get what they want. When companies compete they set new standards for other companies to either match or to beat. When a company sets a new standard, it gets more recognition and increased revenue. Then another company comes along and raises the bar, that company now gets the recognition and the increase in revenue.
We have raised the bar in our initial service area by providing T1 class services that provide broadband speeds of 6 Mbps or higher at less than half the price of the incumbent carriers. We are providing carrier grade services for business, public safety, healthcare and education.
